Soft Tissue Therapy in Currambine

Not every problem is a joint problem. When muscle and fascia are tight, overloaded or sensitive, hands-on soft tissue work can change how an area feels and moves within a single session — particularly when it is followed by something that gives the change a reason to stick.

What is soft tissue therapy?

Soft tissue therapy is hands-on treatment applied to muscle, tendon and fascia to reduce tension, improve tissue glide and decrease sensitivity. At Northern Beaches Chiropractic in Currambine it is used alongside chiropractic care and loading, chosen based on what the assessment shows.

What an appointment may involve

  1. 1

Palpation and movement testing to find which tissue is actually involved.

  2. 2

Targeted hands-on techniques, which may include sustained pressure, cross-fibre work and active release with movement.

  3. 3

Feedback throughout — pressure is adjusted to what you can relax into, not what you can tolerate.

  4. 4

Range and loading work to consolidate the change before you leave.

Specific beats general

A general rub-down feels pleasant and rarely changes much. Soft tissue therapy here is aimed at the tissue identified during assessment — often a small area — and combined with movement so the nervous system registers the new range.

Sessions are usually shorter and more targeted than a standard massage appointment for exactly that reason.

How it fits with everything else

Soft tissue work is rarely the whole plan. It pairs naturally with chiropractic care when a joint is stiff and the surrounding muscle is protective, and with dry needling when tissue is not responding to surface pressure.

It also pairs with loading. Tissue that has been freed up and then loaded tends to hold the change. Tissue that has been freed up and then left alone tends not to.

Frequently asked questions

Is soft tissue therapy the same as a massage?

There is overlap in the hands-on techniques, but the intent differs. Remedial massage generally treats broad regions for relaxation and recovery. Soft tissue therapy here is targeted at specific tissue identified in an assessment and is combined with movement and loading.

Should it be painful?

No. Firm is fine, sharp is not. Work that you have to brace against tends to be counterproductive, so pressure is adjusted to a level you can breathe and relax through.

Can I book soft tissue therapy on its own?

It is usually delivered as part of a chiropractic appointment rather than as a standalone booking. Contact the clinic to discuss what suits your situation.
