Ways to pay

Using Private Health Insurance for Chiropractic

Most Australian private health funds include chiropractic under extras cover. Bring your card and we will claim it on the spot through HICAPS, so you pay only the gap. What you get back varies by fund, level of cover, remaining annual limit and any waiting periods.

Can I use private health insurance for chiropractic?

Chiropractic is generally claimable under eligible extras policies with most Australian private health funds. Northern Beaches Chiropractic has HICAPS, so where your policy covers chiropractic your rebate is processed at the appointment and you pay only the gap. The rebate amount depends on your fund, your level of cover and your remaining annual limit — only your fund can confirm that.

How it works

  1. 1

Check your cover before you come in

Call your fund or open their app and ask specifically about chiropractic under your extras. Ask what you get back per visit, what your annual limit is and how much of it is left. This takes a few minutes and removes every surprise.

  2. 2

    Book your appointment

No referral is needed for private health claiming. Chiropractors are primary contact practitioners in Australia, so you can book directly.

  3. 3

Claim on the spot with HICAPS

Bring your fund card and swipe it at the appointment. HICAPS processes the rebate immediately and you pay only the gap — no forms, no waiting for reimbursement.

  4. 4

    Left your card at home?

You will be given a receipt with the item numbers and provider details your fund needs, and you can claim through your fund directly afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Does Northern Beaches Chiropractic have HICAPS?

Yes. Bring your health fund card to your appointment and the rebate is processed on the spot, so you pay only the gap rather than claiming it back afterwards.

Can I claim my rebate at my appointment?

Yes, where your policy covers chiropractic and you have your fund card with you. HICAPS processes the claim at the time. If the claim cannot be processed for any reason, you will be given a receipt to claim through your fund yourself.

How much will I get back?

That depends entirely on your fund and level of cover, and we cannot tell you. Some policies rebate a fixed amount per visit, others a percentage, and all have annual limits. Your fund can give you an exact figure in a couple of minutes.

Do I need a referral to claim on private health?

No. Chiropractors are primary contact practitioners in Australia, so you can book directly. Referrals are only relevant to specific funding pathways such as Medicare chronic condition management, DVA or a workers compensation claim.

Can I claim on both Medicare and private health for the same visit?

No. You cannot claim a Medicare benefit and a private health insurance benefit for the same service. If a visit is billed under a Medicare chronic condition management pathway, it cannot also be claimed through your extras.

What if I have used up my annual limit?

You can still attend — you simply pay the full fee. Extras limits usually reset on 1 January, though some funds work to a different cycle. Your fund can tell you which applies.
