Chiropractic Care for DVA Cardholders
Northern Beaches Chiropractic sees DVA patients. Have your GP referral and Veteran Card ready and our team will help you with the next steps — treatment is billed directly to DVA, not to you. What is covered depends on which card you hold.
Can DVA pay for chiropractic treatment?
Yes, for eligible Veteran Card holders where the treatment is clinically necessary. A Veteran Gold Card covers clinically necessary chiropractic for all conditions; a Veteran White Card covers it for accepted service-related conditions only. A referral from your usual GP is required, and DVA is billed directly by a provider who accepts DVA.

A referral from your usual GP is required. It can be made on the DVA D904 request/referral form or as a letter on the practice's letterhead — both are accepted.

Treatment runs in a cycle
Under DVA's allied health treatment cycle arrangements, a referral covers up to 12 sessions or one year, whichever ends first. There is no limit on the number of cycles you can have — a new referral starts a new cycle.

One therapy per condition at a time
DVA does not fund physiotherapy, osteopathy and chiropractic for the same condition at the same time. If you are already receiving one of those for a condition, that needs sorting out before starting another.

Do all veterans get funded chiropractic?
No. Funding depends on holding an eligible Veteran Card, on the treatment being clinically necessary, and — for White Card holders — on the condition being an accepted service-related condition. A GP referral is also required.
How long does a DVA referral last?
Under the allied health treatment cycle, a referral covers up to 12 sessions or one year, whichever ends first. After that, a new referral from your GP starts a new cycle. There is no cap on the number of cycles.
Will I have anything to pay?
Where the treatment is covered under your card and you have a valid referral, DVA is billed directly and there is generally nothing for you to pay.
Can I see a chiropractor and a physiotherapist at the same time?
Not under DVA for the same condition. DVA does not fund physiotherapy, osteopathy and chiropractic concurrently for the same condition. For genuinely different conditions the position may differ — check with DVA or your GP.
